About
Tito da Costa, born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, is a multi-talented Digital Artist with a unique background in Extreme Sports. His skills spread from Still to Motion Picture, Color Timing, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, DVD Authoring & Web Design to Surfing (Portugal’s #1 1991, #6 ISA European Teams Championships 1991), Scuba Diving (Disney Kids underwater camera man, 2001), Surfing in Water Videography, Car Racing (track and off-road), Motorcycle Off Road Racing, DJing, VJing, management, sales, etc…
Tito – born on the 9th of September, 1970 – started receiving technical training in Video and Television at the tender age of 14 and edited his first surfing video a year later. However, he spent most of his teen years in the family business, working his way up from Assistant to Manager by age 19. He found his way into Real Estate through his father, but the lack of creative expression led him to parallel activities… he opened a Bar in Lisbon’s popular Bairro Alto where he created the decoration and supervised an alternative and eclectic music selection that attracted the crowds. Two years later he traded places to a much different scene – a bar by the beach where he again created a unique surf/rock/alternative environment DJing to a regular crowd that kept building up. But it was designing flyers to the many parties, that he ended up finding his life path. Like some kind of calling, Tito started spending more and more time at his computer, until he realized he was as happy playing in the creative digital realm as he was surfing. It wasn’t long before he sold everything, packed his bags and departed to London where he did 5 courses in one year (having periods of classes 7 days a week) that changed his life for ever: Multimedia Producer, Television Production, 3D, QuickTime VR, Cu-Base.
The following years were spent developing his camera, editing and producer skills, covering the European Professional Surfing Tour for several European TV stations, all while designing an award winning and ground breaking Surfing Website. In 2001, Summer One, the first Portuguese surf flick came to life by his hands alone. Things were looking bright, until… the 9/11 horror caused the cancellation of the European Leg of the World Tour and Tito felt it was once again time to hit the road.
Tito left Portugal in 2002 to enroll at the NYFA Filmmakers Program at Universal Studios in LA and expanded his craft to fiction. He had every intention of returning to Portugal after finishing the NYFA program, but after shooting his first short film, opportunities and expectations started falling right into his path. Three short films and many other projects later – including the role as a technical consultant at Digital Film Tree’s Team for an Advanced Final Cut Pro Book on Color Correction and SFX for Peachpit Press – Tito Da Costa is still surfing the shores of California.
He is currently finishing his first full length feature film, “Road to Red” where he had a chance to combine many of his skills (Writer, Director, Editor, Color Timer, SFX, Surfing, Skateboarding, etc…).
A trained Multimedia Producer in London’s SAE Technology College, Tito is relentless when it comes to finding ways of expressing his creativity! Having experimented with almost every medium that runs through a computer he continues his development as an artist creating an impressive fashion and art photography portfolio, as well as some very unique photo manipulation art pieces, that will potentially lead him to his first art exhibition.
Tito da Costa’s goals for the future is to keep pushing digital formats to provide better cinematic storytelling experiences and gain more freedom to unleash his creativity in the world of motion pictures and photography.
